We have a dear friend that has raised horses all his life, just was wondering if anyone here knew of him. Jim (Bucky) Senkbeil of Chapman NE. He bred the great horse Skipa Star in 1973. He has always stayed with the Skipper W and Pitzer bloodlines. He know's bloodlines better than I know my way home...so interesting to talk to...

This is his latest yearling,,,and he believes this is the best colt he's ever raised, even better than Skipa Star...Time will tell....Sorry I didn't get a full shot of the colt...
 
Our old gelding is a grandson of skipper w he's not a big horse but the kids like him he rides a bit rough but he's honest.
 
I've never delt with the Skipper W line either. But I like the way his head is made. Other than his pink nose. Down here that'd be sunburn city. We have one we deal with all the time that gets a sunburnt nose. Yes....TP.....so we put baby sunblock lotion on it to keep it from doin it.

Also....one of my personal pet peaves...is feedin horses round bales in hay rings. Don't know if that's what happened to his mane.....or if it got bit off....but it takes foreverrrrrrrr for em to grow out.

By the way.....I really like that picture. Neat lookin old barn
 
We had a Skipa stud....beautiful too look at.....Brain Dead!!!!


He didn't last too long,guy we bought him from took him back and we got two great fillies in trade.He was bullet desitined here.He liked to attack with his front feet.
 
not to pee in Canadian cereal..............but used to start a number of Skipa Star bred colts. They were outa of an Appaloosa son "Rock Star" and went onto be pretty handy. Matter of fact a mare, "Skip the Color" was named APHc Horse of the year in 1998.

Since Bucky is a friend of the family,,we tried Skipper W horses years ago,,and didn't get along with them as ranch horses...They were all pretty palomino's like this one,,but they just didn't have what we needed...We're not fans of Skipper W bloodlines...Bucky sells most of his colts for halter horses,,a few make it to performance,,but it's all show horses...where the big bucks are spent! I'm sure Skipper W's were great horses in their day and that Hank W...used them for work horses...but as the years go by and all the cross bloodlines..they have changed alot....

I'm guessing Lilly that it is a hayring that messes with the mane..I hate that too! Glad to see that you're surviving down there....

not at all, just tryin to give ya a bad time :wink: :lol:

but you and Jassy are right,,,,,,,,the Skipa Star lines might not work as ranch horses & thats what yall need........... 8) But the stock I was around was for the show arena & that's the market that they fit. They weren't the easiest to get going, but people liked their looks and they could generally handle themselves pretty well in the pen. I'm guessin Mr. Senkbeil knew that as he kept the line going.
 
I agree that they are beautiful, showy horses and made it big
in the showring. Not many ranchers riding them tho...anyway around
the areas I'm familiar with.

But they do fit a niche...

My best mare is a Skipper W bred on the bottom side. She's 24 now and she's been the best horse I've owned and rode for the past 18 years.
Lots of folks say that a Skipper W horse will quit you, but I've never had a problem with that with my old mare, she's all heart and has never quit me no matter what. To this day she's been a safe reliable old girl that gives her all in any situation. :D
Only one small problem that I ever had with her was because she was a rope horse, I tried to blow past a cow to head it off and I couldn't get her to do it. She'd put me there to rope it but I couldn't get her to blow past to cut it off.

My family owns an own son of skipa star, he's skipa stars rock and he just turned 27, he was an nfr head horse for a time, bred out of new Mexico and my dad used him to pack in hunting. Now he's semi retired and the BEST and BEST BODIED gelding we own even at 27 💕💕
