I am a student currently studying agriculture at my local university. A lot of my classes are concentrated in what I would call contemporary topics (IE., urban agriculture, agroecology), farm business management, and animal science. If I wanted to support or work with local ranches, what areas are most valuable? Many have expressed that proper understanding of financial management, resource and soil conservation, and animal care are key to a successful ranch. But I also feel that some things are better learned outside of the classroom. So what would you all recommend prioritizing in my degree plan? And in terms of pursuing a career in agriculture, what would you recommend avoiding? Any insights are welcome.
