How warm is it in your area?

We started having the weather girl predicting rain for yesterday, and for the next 7 days after that, but every time I look it keeps getting pushed back. When this happens we usually don't get any at all or a non registering sprinkle.Sure is dry. With the wind the way it is we are in high chance of fires.

There was a fire west of Buffalo WY (30 miles south of us) in Little Crazy Woman Canyon just 2 days ago. It burned about 180 acres, but the volunteer firemen got it contained. This is MARCH. We don't have fires in MARCH. Kind of frightening what the summer could be like; there won't be much snow run off unless things change drastically. And that is talking about the Big Horn Mountains; we have thousands of acres of plains to the east that will be full of dry grass. There were terrible fires there in 2024. Terrible BIG fires.

It is way to early to be worrying about fires. Seems like an odd time of year to be thinking about a Rain Dance, but
it might not hurt.

Question: Is there a story behind "Little Crazy Woman Canyon" ?

Oh yes, quite a story. I'll try and find it for you. Not sure if it is totally true. 😊
If you do a past search here you should be able to find advice about how to make it rain. Some of the best advice was to "run to the barn naked." I think a few were so desperate for rain they actually tried that. 🤣
BMR, you might have to try that. 😵‍💫🤣

Here is a bit about the naming of Crazy Woman Canyon:

Native Americans have lived in this part of the American West for thousands of years, long before the settlement of Europeans. Because of Wyoming’s cultural heritage, numerous legends surround the land. One of those is the story of “Crazy Woman.”

One legend tells the story of the Morgan family traveling in a covered wagon when Sioux people attacked and killed the three children and father.

The mother survived and went crazy after witnessing such horror. She turned on the warriors, grabbed an ax, and killed four of them as they fled the bloody scene.

Mrs. Morgan refused to leave her family. A man named Johnson came along and buried her family members. He also built Mrs. Morgan a small cabin, but later, he found her frozen body, dead from starvation. The stream near where she and her family died was named Crazy Woman Creek.
And these:
Another legend that could stem from this first story is about a trader who sold “firewater,” otherwise known as whiskey, to the Native Americans. When they ran out and returned for more, he didn’t have any left to give them.

The Native Americans killed him, but his wife escaped. She wandered along the creek, eventually losing her mind. A man named Johnson was also said to care for her.

A third legend tells the story of a young woman whose village was attacked, and she was subsequently killed. The Crow Tribe believed she could be seen on moonlit nights at the creek. They also thought she brought good luck.

Still getting a bit of everything here. Good amounts of rain with a little wind, some frosty mornings, a few really warm days scattered through all of it. Grass is growing really well.

Beautiful weather here.50 at night and highs just under 80,but sometimes the wind can get out of hand. The North is fighting the South right now and we seem to be right in the middle which is a good thing because there have been some much needed rain and sprinkles about every 7 days or so.It's not a whole lot of volume, but I will take anything Mother Nature will give me.Last 4 weeks there have been battles in every direction and we've been getting edge rains.Never a battle right over us.The South will eventually win the war,but I'm loving these battles. No hail or tornados but some have been close.

If we got 6.3 inches in day it would be a disaster. The canyon road would be gone. I doubt my bridge would survive. That is about half of our annual rain. We are getting a nice slow soaker today. If we get what the weather guessers predict it will be just under an inch.

We had .60" in the dog dish before dark last night, neighbor has 1.19" in her rain gauge this morning. There is 2" of wet snow and still snowing. We will have grass! Praise the Lord.
All our ponds on the leased are dry, maybe it will really dump there and fill them.

Thanks for sharing that, Nicky. I love good news!!!! Praise the Lord!!!

I read that they had 0.97 inches at the Baker airport yesterday. Our average for the entire month of April in 0.80. So got over a months rain yesterday. It rained a little more today. And is supposed to rain on Wednesday. My hay fields look like I just flood irrigated. Standing water in all the low spots.

Raining pretty good right now and most of the night. Puddles in the driveway look to be full. This should put us over double our normal rainfall for the month of April. This should make the grass jump out of the ground. And I just harrowed the front field yesterday. 85 cows on that little field since January left lots of cow manure which is now broken up and soaking in.
