    We may need an ark??

That looks even worse than it does here in the red river valley  Forecast for us looks pretty misserable for the next few days too. Rain on Monday then changing to snow on Tues and Wed plus a lot of wind with it all :( ..good luck getting through the storm.

    Loader Tractor?

I use a JD 7420 at the feedlot every day for pulling the feed wagon and it hasn't been too bad. About 4 years old now with over 8000 hours on it and we havent had to do very much to it besides servicing. It makes a handy loader tractor too but I would say we work it a little too hard sometimes...

how does everybody manage older cows?

I feed all my old cows beet tailings and free choice grass hay all winter. Then usually in December/January I start giving them some alfalfa and start putting out 30% protein/mineral tubs getting closer to calving. They always do really well, considering the tough winters we have around here...

    Hfr problem

We had a steer at the feedlot do something like that this summer. Would lay down like he was dead then he would jump up and start walking in circles holding his head funny, then he would get tired and lay down again. It was really hard to get him to walk straight and he would walk right into...

    Questions about aborting feedlot heifers

We always use 7cc lut. and 10cc dexo. regardless of size of the heifer or how far along they are. Seems to work good, we have aborted them up to 6 months bred without any problems.

    Aluminum Trailers

Well i got one. Used 2001 Sooner, 24 foot, 2 center gates, basically like new. Bought it from a colony in SD. They have hardly used it and taken real good care of it, its even been kept inside most of the time from what i was told. Looked like a deal to me for only $12,500 when a new one would...

    Aluminum Trailers

Thanks for all the replies everyone! Might have to head out west one day and check out Dickinson. There are a few places on the way out there too to check out. I'll have to figure out for sure how much money I have to play with and go from there. The featherlites seem pretty good, just heard...

    Aluminum Trailers

Looking for a new aluminum stock trailer, probably a 7 by 24 ft. Any advice on brands? I have looked at quite a few different ones and I'm trying to stay away from the real spendy ones like the sundowner, exiss and those ones. The duralites built in SD look to be pretty good for the money, and...

anyone know of a simmental bull breeder in central MN???

Tri E Simmentals in eastern ND might not be too far for you. I work for them, mostly in the feedlot though and not with the purebred herd. They have some very nice bulls selling private treaty for not too bad of a price, mostly blacks, few reds. As far as Gramms, they just had their...

    replacement heifers vs. older cows

Buy the short term cows, sell them as pairs in the spring when they are high and double your money. It has been working great for me and you arent out anything if the market crashes because you dont have anything into them but a little feed. Just a thought.

    Any good advice...?

Thanks for the replies, it would really be nice to get out and see whats out there. There is no doubt that I love living in ND, but I'm sure there is a lot of other wonderful country to get out and see too so I will take it one day at a time and see what happens.

    Any good advice...?

Hello everyone, I have been looking at some interesting posts on here every once in awhile when i get the time and it seems like there are some pretty interesting people on this forum, and i have even learned a few things. Anyway, i just graduated from the U of M-Crookston campus with a B.S. in...

    Calf Question

I would say the calf probably has pneumonia, maybe from being in the barn too long. Always best to turn them out as soon as you can and they will be healthier. I would treat it right away but it might already be too late, that would be my guess anyway.

    grinding alfalfa and cornstalks

We grind a lot of cornstalks at the feedlot I work at, they grind up very well. Right now we have been grinding 1 cornstalk bale for every 2 or 3 straw bales for the straw pile that we use as a roughage source in the finishing ration. I would say that ratio sounds pretty good too me, but I'm...

    Draxxin

They have been using it at the feedlot where i work for quite a while now and seem to really like it. Now they usually prefer it over excede or naxcel which they have also used in the past.
