Round baler info

Thanks Rod. The only time I can say I have problems starting a bale is when the flaps on the starter roller go bad. I've changed them twice now. No bearing problems yet, knock on wood.

When I first got the baler it was the first my dealer put out. First round around the field I piled up 4 of the belts. Turns out my baler missed a recall deal to put the belt guide in the tailgate. Could of been worse. I was pleased with the way AGCO and the local dealer stepped up to the plate and made priority to get me going again, and at no charge.

Dealer didn't have any 856 belts on had so took them out of the other new baler still on the lot to get me back in the field, along with installing the belt guide in the tailgate.

Don't laugh to hard but I'm still running a JD 510 that I bought new in 1972 - - - -sold it in 1995 ( $5,000.00 ) and bought it back in 2007 ( $1,500.00 )

My son bought a chain type baler ( $400.00 ) as he was assured it would bale anything - - - - found it would but the bales never stood up to out side storage and only weighed about 1,100 #

We found a JD 530 in very good condition at a January auction and bought it for $3,000.00 ( it seems no one wanted a 1,000 rpm baler as the 540 rpm balers there brought twice as much or more ) and put the chain baler in an auction two weeks ago and got $1,200.00 after about 4 years of use.

I have a scale at the gravel pit so we weigh bales going into the bale yard and the 510 is making 2,100# bales so we doan't have to handle as many and I feel they are so tight they shed the water great. I feel the 530 should make as good or better but ask me next year and I'll let you know.

It seems there are many good balers out there - - - -I would sudgest geting a brand with a good dealer network in your area.

I always ran Massey tractors at home and was always happy with the service and prices. Since I started slinging parts for the local Massey dealership, I've become even more impressed with the company. While AgCo isn't up to JD standards, as far as keeping parts for older equipment in the system, the parts they do have are of equal or better quality, cheaper, and have a MUCH better warranty. JD only warranties most parts for 1 - 3 months, while AgCo has a 1 year warranty on most parts, with some reaching 2 or 3 years.

AgCo also tends to be more on the ball as far as change-ups to their new models go. I've watched JD and NH do change ups, slap a new model number on the equipment, and leave their owners sucking hind tit. While AgCo certainly isn't perfect, they tend to fix issues as they arise, all at no cost to the owner or dealer (they are a little harsh with dealers and re-imbursement).
