CBM...for what it's worth...I think you should get pick-o-the litter on the colts.

Like I said kid, if you ain't here to ride and train one, I don't see why you need one.
As for my grandson, I got a couple all ready for him, when he's big enough to use 'em and appreciate them!
Horses cost money to raise, train and feed and anyone who wants one has to come up with either money or their time. :shock:
Ain't no free lunches around here. Just ask my banker. :lol:
I ain't give any away yet, tho' a couple around here have a couple in their string. They still belong to me and if they are sold out of their string, they will get paid, according to how well they trained them. That's the deal.
I just got back from buying and hauling little squares for $3.50 a bale. I had to drive 60 miles pulling a trailer to get them. One way. You want to pay for some feed, we can deal. :wink:
As for the post about naming them, mine all name themselves when they are getting trained. Some of them don't get a name that's printable on here, for awhile until they come up with a better name! :lol:
Of course, that ain't the name on their AQHA papers. :wink:

I'm going to Judith. I called the guy last night who wanted him and told him he wasn't for sale.
At least, not until I see what he grows into. I don't raise them to sell. I raise them to ride. When they are older and solid, if someone wants a good one and has the wherewithall to purchase one, then they will get sold.
It was hard for me to type the words "hang on to the chestnut" You see I'm a bay gal myself .... However I also know a good one when I see it and if his temperment is as nice as his balance he's a keeper (even though he's a chestnut, cough cough....) LOL

This colt goes back pretty close to Zan Par Bar on the topside and Orphan Drift, San Peppy, Colonel Freckels, on the bottom side.
Only fault I can see so far, is he's a little thick in the throat latch. And if they can't open their throat to breath, they sure can't run very far! :lol:
So maybe a thick throat latch, ain't all bad. :lol:

Dang I'd jump on $3.50 a bale for horse hay(coastal).......we are payin 5.50 a bale and that's still cheap compared to what alot are payin around here. some are payin as much as 8.00 to 10.00 a bale, and alfalfa last I heard was goin for 15.00 a bale......and yes..these are square bales.

Nice looking horses JB, I guess because as a horse idiot I have barely graduated past basic color evaluation (Brown, not brown as one guy I know says) and progressed to "like vs don't like" I would take my assessments with a big old grain of salt. What ya gotta do is train them up an sell a package deal of a 7 year old horse that is pretty darn good + a custumn made Dennis Ranch Saddle and ship them out to Illinois... Yeah, yeah, that's the ticket :lol: :lol:

I was fond of the chestnut initially. When I saw the background, liked him even more :!: About as much "cow" & "rope" as boy could ask for. Be intersted in seeing how the Col. Freckles adds to his "motor".

I just got off from the phone with the man who I got this colts daddy from.
This guy runs on a big chunck of country and when he gathers horses, he never quite gets them all. It's kind of a Will James deal. The feller probably has 150 head of broodmares and they run in rough country.
He told me that in the tuff' winters, he's had the horses save his cows, by pawing the snow away from the grass and the cows follow the horses and push them away from the grass.
I'd read about it and seen just a little of that myself, in some tuff' winters.
I think I'm going to drive over and see some of his horses on Sunday, on my way home. 'Course goin' that way, it's a long ways home, but shoot, whats a few miles, to get to look at some horses! :lol:
This feller has as good of bred horses as there are out there. He just runs them pretty "ranchy". He buys real good studs and the country pretty much culls them, for him.
When he brands in the spring, he has a lot of fellers from quite a ways away, come and help. They bring their saddles and he furnishes the horses. They tell me, that when these guys saddle these horses that have been turned out all winter and ride away from the pens, that there ain't a one of them horses that blows up or bucks. Thats pretty good, for some rough ol' ranch ponies.

As for learning about horses, the only way I know, is kind of like playing poker. You can only watch and learn so much. Then you just got to take a seat and get some first hand experience. :wink: :lol:

I think it is X U Bar. You read them top to bottom or left to right. I hope it's a freeze brand. It's kind of pretty.
It's in the same spot as my brand, so I won't re-brand her, just keep the brand inspection papers.
I usually don't brand horses I buy, just the ones that I raise. Tho' I did brand my new stud, as he didn't have a brand on him. And around here, if there is no brand on a critter, the critter belongs to who ever has it in their possession. And I want to keep him in my possession! :lol:
