Some months ago we discussed the use of Vigortone Mineral with IGR for control of horn flies.

We have been using this for two or three months now. At first the cattle didn't eat much of it because the grass was green and they didn't seem to need it. It has been dry now for about six weeks and the grass has dried up.

We went for a ranch tour today and we were surprised at the absence of flies on the cattle. Most of them had not a single fly. They are in good shape as well due to a good spring.

Your mineral works as advertised. Thanks for the advice.

Insect Growth Regulator I beleive.. Keeps the fly larva from pupating so the larva never reach adult hood after hatch..

Insect Growth Regulator......controls the life cycle of flies by inhibiting maturity of the pests, therefore if they don't reach maturity, they can't reproduce.

I used IGR to spray around the house and barn for fleas and it stopped flies also - That was 4 years ago! Still working!!

Pure, Don't know what is in it exactly because I stopped using it 5 years ago.. Claim is that it isn't absorbed by the digestive tract of the livestock that consume it but with the direct marketing we do into Chicago area I just can't use it.

Anything that can't be digested by the body probably shouldn't be in the body.JMO

Most likely it's Altosid. If so, it's very safe...much safer than caffeine, salt, or salicylic acid.

It's a "feed through", which means it passes through the g.i tract to end up in the manure, where it inhibits development of the pupae.

And IGR is Altosid and it is SAFE.

Vigortone products containing IGR are formulated so that if cattle eat half of what is recommended the IGR still works. We have noticed that our customers who use IGR come in with the heaviest calves in the fall.

You will probably still see some flies on the cows, but if the cattle don't bunch, the IGR is working. We will never get rid of ALL the flies, darn it.
But IGR keeps them down to a level that won't interfere with performance.

We don't sell much product without IGR to ranchers who run yearlings
because of how well it works. When the cattle are out grazing instead of
bunching up, they are making money.
