This happened back in the summer.. Thought about entering it in the old machinery photo contest.
It finished the job and got me home to the shop.....but I will admit there was no backing up!!! My son welded a new axel on and it is as good as new

Well it worked!

Reminds me of the time, 25 years ago, I was taking a load of
calves to the Toronto Stockyards in my goose neck tandem trailer.
The shackle bolt on the trailer's back axle, driver's side,
broke when I was on the edge of the city and there I was
with the axle angled back far enough so that the tire was
rubbing on the frame.
On the side of Hwy 401 or maybe Eglington St., no less.

Luckily, I had in the back seat of my pickup a come-along like
the one in your picture so I used it to pull the axle back into
alignment and finished the trip on a "come-along and a prayer".
And didn't meet a DOT that trip!

Those were the days . . .

Coming upon a stranded motorist one night and not having a chain along, I cut off about 15 feet of barbed wire from the top wire of a four-wire fence. This worked well enough to tow his car on into town several miles.

One of my neighbors lost a wheel on his stock trailer one night so he used his come-a-long to tie the axel to the roof. It worked and it got him home.

We had a very merry Christmas, and had fun eating the neighbor's beef. That prime rib was wonderful. :)
