A hay knife that makes cutting twine easy. The best part is you can do it with your gloves or mittens on. It is manufactured by: The Tucker Corporation, Mooreland, OK 73852. The only improvement I would suggest to them is to paint the handle orange. I have planted a couple, but they never seem to grow. :roll: Anymore I try to keep one extra on hand at all times. They are for sale at Lancaster Livestock, Cody, Nebraska, 402-823-4242 at the price of $15.95 each. They are a good investment.

It would be interesting to know when this old cottonwood tree was planted. I'll bet it was over a century ago.

Pretty well, considering the present horse market. It was a four-year-old mare that the young ten-year-old boy had broken by himself. She was dog gentle and had a fairly good handle. She sold for $550.

I like that hay knife I think I'll make one, dose the blade slide up from the bottom and stay put with a set screw?

Thanks folks. I will pass the birthday greetings on to Peach. My photos were from several days and it was confusing, but her birthday was December 18th. She was born in Alabama, where her dad was a veterinarian at the time. One of his good friends was a medical doctor who had an expectant dog in need of a C-section. The two friends just traded their services and expertise, and neither was out any cash for the deliveries of the new babies. :wink:

Yes, it does. It is recommended to use a heavy duty Stanley Utility knife blade .025" thick.
 
Nice set of pics. I like that twine cutting tool. I hate to take the gloves off in the sub zero temps.

Thanks Soapweed for postin this. Now I just hafta print your picture. Put it in a box and wrap it. Since it won't be here until after Christmas, most likely. But that's ok...it'll be a good gift for Mr Lilly.

Oh and Liz there at the Lancaster livestock was kinda shocked...that some woman in Texas mentioned your name, and that I wanted one of those knives. It's all your fault Soapweed. :wink: She was very nice to do business with btw.

That cottonwood is a neat looking tree. It does make you wonder the history on it. I know the cottonwood in Jim's yard was planted by his mother and I'm guessing is over the 100 year mark. It's a beautiful tree and gets pruned every fall when the cattle trucks drive by it to haul the calves away :D .
 
Happy B'day Peach. It will suffice to say I've got ya beat in the seniority department. I wonder how sickle sections would work in a homemade knife? prolly not as well as your factory made one.

Sickle sections bolted to a wooden or metal handle work good for cutting strings...I use an old hay hook for digging out the strings (painted florescent orange because I've lost it a time or two and luckily didn't find it in a tire) for digging out the strings and jerking hay rolls lose...

With these frozen bales I pack an axe in the truck to chop thru the strings or wrap...

I just wanted to write you a quick note to tell you how much I enjoy your pictures. I started checking this last year when my brother helped you through calving season...it is always good to have a picture confirmation that crazy guy is still alive!! :lol:
