Last night I had just sat down about 5:00 and the phone rang. It was B saying he heard there was smoke up Wood Gulch. He wanted me to check it out and call him back. There had been lots of lightning just a few minutes before. Well there sure was smoke. About then one of the guys pulls up in the small pump truck and says jump in. Two 4 wheel drive pump trucks we had it pretty well shut down in 30 minutes. After that the troops showed up. 3 or 4 more pump trucks, 2 cats, and 12-15 people. Probably burned 15/20 acres. The area had been grazed pretty heavy so it was just burning the well scattered sage brush. The wind was blowing so it was doing a good job of jumping. I left at about 8:30 it was controlled and contained. They were just starting to mop up. The BLM arrived in time to do that. The locals got it knocked down in time before the feds arrived and turned it into a mega fire.

It rained a lot in areas not far from the fire but nothing up on that ridge. In fact it rained enough up the canyon to cause a big mud slide which blocked off the road. The river and the irrigation ditches are running mud.

Buffalo WY has been having huge thunderstorms and rain. Their annual county fair is going on now,
so it gets pretty exciting. They said more was expected tonight. We are about 20 miles from there and we
didn't get anything last night. This country is certainly green for the first of August. We will take it!!!

We only got .27", but been getting anywhere from zero, .02" to the .27" most every night last couple week... usually under .10"
I bet your country is green, Jody. So nice to see the first week of August.
Our daughter doesn't live far from you and she said there has been a lot of rain there, but that it was so dry last year that it must have killed some grass. There were bald spots on the ground that showed up this spring and the grass growing in those places is brown and nothing will eat it. Do you have any knowledge of that?
