Pictures from our visit to the McGinnis Ranch near Baker City, Oregon - June 26, 2019

Here is a little point of interest that I seemed to remember and had to Google to answer my own question: In 1910, Baker City residents voted to change the name of the town to Baker, but after another vote in 1989 the official name was changed back to Baker City.

Even though we could use a rain, the water level is high. There is a 30' steel tank about six inches under this pond. A good crew is helping to move yearling heifers in the north country. Easy does it. The heifers are doing well. Persuading them to a different pasture The Kosmo Kid...

Cows enjoying life Lounging around on a warm summer day Some of them seem more scared of the water. Later in the day they had drifted to the north end of the pasture. I got behind them on my Ranger and drifted them to a gate into the next pasture. But will pause to let them match up...

Shade is rather hard to come by. There is a bridge across the Niobrara River, not too far from here, named the Lavaca Bridge. I think it most likely was named by early Texas cowboys who arrived in this area when they trailed cattle up from Texas.

    Late April 2017

Rather than sacrifice a nice young productive cow, we just put blabs in their nose. This actually works quite well. This is kind of off the subject but yet it somehow almost pertains. Sparky was telling me of a little kid who asked his mother, "Mom, what kind of bees give milk?" She replied...
