Welcome Bunny, glad to see you gave rodeo a look and found it to be comfortable for you. PPRM, Dr. Hatfield is darn sure one of the most low key knowlegeable people I`ve ever heard of. His simple approach sure can be used by many.

The use of spurs is just another tool you can have as useing different bits. Cues with spurs are neither painful or frighting if used right. I like short shank small rowels. But that`s all in preference.

Obviously some thing set him off. Sometimes if you check them up both directions till he starts a sweat he will give you his undivided attention. There are other little "tricks", but maybe the best solution is as Jinglebob said, "Find a GOOD trainer". I might add one that rides outside.
