i have a nh 1411 have been running it for a few years.i have a problem keeping the crop lifters on it generaly loose 1 or 2 a year when i first got the machine they were 65dollars a pair, bought some friday 135 dollars for a pair.the discs are properly timed, there is no vibration & I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING.The cutterbar is straight and in good shape.had it happen today again and i did not have a spare so i took off the one remaing and tried it without the lifters the machine ran perfectly in my opinion it cut better without the lifters this crop was 8 to 24 inches tall standing not lodged.HAS ANYBODY HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCE ?

I'm afraid I have to plead ignorance and ask what you mean by crop lifters.

they are wedges that attach to the disc. they are either conter clockwise or clockwise .the knife bolt goes through one hole and a shorter bolt attaches at the top

Oh, we have a 956 JD, sounds like the deals on the outside turtles. I lost the ones on one side last year and never got them replaced. I cant tell the difference in the way one side cuts compared to the other. I have noticed the bolt head that holds the knife in wearing out though, and changing that knife when the time comes will likely involve a pipe wrench.

on the NH these crop lifters {2}are on each turtle. with one missing the turtle is outa balance, giving an instant vibration.with both of em removed the machine works perfectly.i have looked at the new idea rotarys and don't recall seeing anything similar to these

You wont see a diffrence in the way it cuts if you just take the lifters off of one turtle. But if you took them all off thats when you will see the diffrence. Put some lock tight on the bolts for you lifters just sounds to me the bolt not tight.

In some crops it is better to take the drum off both ends and it will help with crop feeding back to your rollers. I run a 340 self propelled with a 2355 head but they are all the same.

I drew cutter repair at the NH dealership for too long- lifters or acceleraters - same thought- in the sudan- coarse hay of lot of the country they will keep the wear off the turtles and prevent them from having to be replaced- in heavy hay they do give a bit more lift to bring the hay to the rollers. when you change the knives or turn them over and run them some more the threads tend to grow some slack and the nuts back off or on the knife bolt the bolt backs off- ifyou do not have to change knives often just use thread locker on them, or a lot of time pve cement will help- here after a couple of changes it all needs to be thrown away and new one'scused :D
