Sonya's Old Fashioned Beer Cake
2 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
3 cups self-rising flour
11/2TLB spoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup chopped (candied) dates
2 cups beer
Cream brown sugar and shortening until smooth. Add eggs blending well.Combine
dry ingredients, add to creamed mixture alternately with beer, beating well after
each addition. Stir in pecans and candied dates. Spoon batter into a well greased
and floured 10 inch tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Icing- Home made carmel frosting or Betty crocker Butter pecan.
If you like a spice cake you'll love this one. You can also bake it in a 13x9x2
pan for 1 hour.
