#50- first calf heifer and her nice steer calf...Smallest cow on place (maybe make 4 frame)...

A calf first heifer we bought from Galpin Angus last year- she is a Strategy out of a Miner Tribute 705 cow- her calf # 16065897 is an Objective....

Snoopy yearlings starting to come over the hill- the front one is the Whitney Creek heifer I bought last fall... Sired by Cole Creek Track Hunter 60R and out of a Basin Max 104J daughter (WCR Floret 36)...

This is a Cole Creek heifer- out of a HBR Encore O544 daughter (Clovanada 87R) and sired by Juanada Ridge 95R

Checked the wheat while I was near- just like the waterholes and grass it needs rain...
And the forecast just sounds like hot and dry.....

What is that Basin Max breeding doing there when you are breeding for 'moderate' cattle?

Just curious and wanting to rib you a bit. Wink

Miners Tribute. How is that related to Younkin Tribute?
Wasn't Younkin Tribute sold to the Baldridge Company and wound up
HUGE FRAMED with HUGE birthweight? Not a typical Younkin
bull for sure. Or am I thinking of a different bull? The one I
am speaking of showed at Denver after Baldridge's brought him
at one of Jeff's first sales. And he was big there, in Denver, in that
company.

Miner Tribute was a son of Younkin Tribute 1722-- I think the one your thinking of is Younkin Triumph that got so big...He's the one Baldridges got- and he was touted as a heifer bull- and ended up with a BW EPD of over +6... Shocked
The Miner Tribute stuff was really quite moderate- all the way around....I had a bull sired by him a few years ago that I got from Galpin Angus- Galpin Tribute 830 Reg: # 13133018 - that only got 54 inchs high, mature- not even 4 framed- but he sure sired some nice cows....
The only thing I didn't like with the Tributes were they had more BW than I like.....
Galpin is the outfit that used to sell with Younkin- and altho his cows have creeped up some like Jeff's did- he still has a few cows a guy can get a fair one from...And what I like most is they are all really quiet and easy to handle....I'm also not that much of a Strategy fan...

Yep the Basin Max 602C made me a little nervous-as he was almost a 7 frame bull- but the ABS progeny records did't show him that bad for adding stature...And from what I heard he sure was a momma cow maker....104J was smaller framed son I've heard- and this heifers 104J sired mother is a 4 frame....

The really sad thing of the day is finding one of my sons bull calves- dead...Been dead awhile as the cows bag is going down- and its just bones and hide left...My son had just saw him 2 weeks ago and was commenting about how nice that one looked- and he had a guy that wanted it as a bull this fall......
