Every parent you ask will tell you that they could not afford to loose their child either. That money is the factor in that bill...that alone tells you what is at the center of the Rep heart , a $$$$ sign. Millions that can not be accounted for that was bagged and shipped to Iraq and we can't AFFORD something for the Vets' of this quagmire!!! Every parent of a soldier should be pissedoff about that...and loudly claim it.

I am all for free education for anyone that wants it and especially the troops. But in reality a President has to look at the cost of things. In many ways he has to be able to separate emotion for fiscal reality on issues. Otherwise a person could get caught up in offering social programs left and right, much like the Liberals try to do.
Personally I am not very read on this issue and have no idea if the money could really be there or if the current education support the troops get is about as good as America can do financially.
I do know it is not just a decision a President should make on a it feels good and sounds good whim. Just like a good parent, a good President has to be able to say no sometimes as much as he would like to say yes. Those decisions are what make a good President. |

Seems to me that every other politician for as long as I can remember has ran on "Change" - and nothing ever is changed. Now, Barry-O is singing the same old song. Tell me, what exactly is he going to change? How is he going to do it? How about more than an overused slogan? |
I repeat the question; What and how? Come on, Kola, this is your boy.

He's not ' my boy'...as I stated before and you DID NOT read that I prefer Hillary.
How he's gonna change things? I'd say by being the ' change' himself will bring enough fresh air into DC.
Helles Belles.....McCain is saying practically the same thing...." change" is about every 3rd word in his sentences also.
I'd say the best description may be " out with the old...in with the new"

I think the crap may be coming from your end, if you think the president can just ok any program no matter what the cost. There are lots of nice things that could be done if the money is there, but if the money is not there they have to be vetoed no matter how nice it would be.
Like I said I don't know if America could afford such a program or not, and I doubt you know either. It would take some serious financial planning and evaluating where the money would come from. But you Libs just want to dream up all kind of cool things that make you feel all fuzzy and warm inside with out any regards towards the practicality of them.

| Bush and the Republican Congress never gave a thought to where the money was coming from to fund the Iraq war, $2 Billion+ each and every week. Now that Webb is trying to get educational benefits for the troops that BUSH sent to Iraq, suddenly there are financial considerations? Webb has half a dozen Republican and Demcoratic co-sponsors for the bill. McCain is missing the boat AGAIN. IMO, he's going to be terrible candidate in the general election. The "liberal" press is no longer going to be able to cover for him as he continues to support Bush's tired, old failed policies. Take his recent speech about how wonderful it will be in Iraq by 2013. That comes right out of Bush's playbook: "trust me, give me another four years, a $tillion more debt, hundreds more dead, wounded, mained soldiers, and everything will be ok." I don't and it hasn't.

Yep- McCain is just another neocon that beats the war- veteran drum-- but doesn't want to stand behind them--rather sending the money overseas for foreign nationbuilding
This part of the bill is essentially an idea first brought to light by ultra conservative investor/economist/entrepreneur/TV host Ben Stein (Ben Steins Money) on the O'Reilly Factor a couple of years ago- that O'Reilly agreed to...
That the rich (and I have to call anyone with an income of $500,000/$1 mill couple a year rich)- who in most cases are those most profiteering from this war- should be the ones picking up the cost of the war- and paying a surcharge to equip the troops adequately, and the costs of the troops salaries, medical, and educational costs....
Maybe if they had to start paying for it- it would slow down the elitist neocon war drum beat

The add-ons for the unemployed and the new college benefits under the GI Bill represented the price demanded by Democrats for approving Bush's long-stalled request for additional war funding.
The new GI Bill essentially would guarantee a full scholarship at any in-state public university, along with a monthly housing stipend, for people who serve in the military for at least three years. It is aimed at replicating the benefits awarded veterans of World War II and would cost $52 billion over 10 years.
To pay for it and adhere to budget rules requiring new benefit programs not add to the deficit, the Democratic plan would impose a surtax on individuals with incomes above $500,000. Couples would pay the tax on income exceeding $1 million.
"We are talking about people who are making over $1 million to pay a small sacrifice for this war where our military families are paying a huge sacrifice," said Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill. |

No answer.....
This is the same with all of Barry-O's supporters that I've seen. He says "Change", and everybody gets starry eyed and adopts that word as a mantra, even though every other politician for the last 50 years has said the same dang thing. Even though he hasn't said WHAT he is going to change or HOW he is going to change anything. Even though this guy's hose is longer than his congressional record and he hasn't shown the ability to get the most trivial bill passed. ( I guess he did show he could get an earmark through as evidenced by the fat one he got for his wife's employer, right before she got a huge raise)
You liberals are really showing your thinking and reasoning abilities here when you fall for the same old "Change" slogan when there is nothing behind it. People who just fall for a slogan and don't ask for any specifics really shouldn't be allowed to vote. It's totally irresponsible. We have an age limit before one can vote here because after you attain a certain age, it is expected that one can reason better and then make informed decisions. Looks to me that we need to come up with another qualifier.

This is the quote that made me start to wonder about Obama. Ok really my first wonder was when his name was so close to Osama. It's like he's almost saying something good as in it's a great nation and then says it's time to change it. If it's so great why does it need changed?
