If you want to look at some old saddles and prices back then-- here is a site that lilly posted a couple of years ago....
http://www.cabincreekcds.com/Western.htm
I was thinking about my old saddle that fell apart (a Heiser-Keystone) and remembered that catalog- so searched it up.....
Heres the thread link on that saddle discussion we had...

Good lookin saddle old Timer, where did you get it ?
I have had good luck with Billy Cook saddles, but a little pricey for what I do,think I will keep it around $600 this time.................good luck
PS the one I have pictured is $600 on ebay.......5 year guarantee on the tree. |
I custom ordered it thru a saddlemaker that was a Tex Tan dealer several years ago (wanted a 17" seat- and bullhide covered tree) when my old saddle fell apart with red rot... I think it was about $1100...We decided that as much riding as I do anymore it's probably all I need- and will probably outlast me..... |
That's about what I was paying for the Billy Cook saddles, maybe I oughta break down and order me a new one, sure hate to order a cheap one and be disappointed in it and wind up ordering another one.
good luck
PS are yall gettin any rain up there, weather folks are saying this hill country is as dry as its ever been, better get some rain this spring when the hay crops go or I might just capitalize on the good prices for cattle, haul every damn one of them to the sale, then sit on the front porch and drink good whiskey with the rest of the old coots .

No rain The temp is 10 Below- on its way down to 20 Below....
Did get a skiff of light powdery snow today that all blew away in the 30-40 mph winds.....
We definitely need some moisture- especially to fill water holes....Hopefully it will come in rain about May and June.....
