Saddle question....

As I've mentioned before,I'm pretty much an idiot when it comes to horses and tack. The saddle I have now fits me good, just DOES NOT fit my horse(he hates it.....I can tell). He is quite high in the withers.
Anyway, I am trying out a used "Simco" saddle my neighbor has for sale.
It fits my horse pretty good(perfect actually) and is fairly comfortable for me.
It looks to me like a very well-made saddle and the price is reasonable. My wife(who knows a lot about horses and tack) says it is a good deal......but she likes to screw me around on stuff I don't know about(payback!! ).
Anyone know anything about this brand of saddle??? This particular one is WELL used,but in pretty decent shape...... they are asking $300 but I'm pretty sure I could get it for $200 or maybe $225.

Simco is a pretty decent brand of saddle, but the real question is the one you already answered, does it fit your horse....... You can squirm around and get comfortable if a saddle isn't quite right for you, but your horse has to put up with it no matter what. I have three horses and three saddles, and am looking for another one because my gray horse has outgrown the one I use on him now. Just imagine if you had to wear a pair of shoes that were just a half size too small, thats kinda the way an ill fitting saddle is. The price sounds good as long as the saddle is sound, not old leather, broke tree, rusty d--rings, stuff like that. Probably your wife know if it's a good deal or not.

If your horse has high withers, I would suggest getting a saddle pad
with a cut-out regardless of the saddle you use.

Simco is an ok saddle, IMO, but certainly not top of the line.
Put the saddle on your horse without a blanket or pad and take
a look at it then. That should tell you if it fits. OR saddle the horse
and ride him til he is sweaty. Take the saddle off and see if you
have any dry spots. You don't want dry spots, that could indicate the saddle is inferior or doesn't fit your horse.

This is a very tough question to answer on the internet.
Do you know what the bars of that saddle are? If you have a
high-withered horse, chances are you don't want full quarter
horse bars. And make sure the tree isn't broken.

See what I mean? Lots and lots of variables.

I have a Simco if I put it on my horse most likely he will get broncy I bought a new saddle last year and have a totally different horse.I will sell you my Simco for a couple hundred buck's.

Tim,its a good price.If it feels good on you and the horse,for the price its worth it.You probably won't be riding in it everyday checking and roping cattle,so I think its a good deal for you.The tree must be OK because if you've rode in it chances are the horse would have let you know if there was anything wrong.JMHO

Simco is a factory saddle & the price is right in the range of used factory saddles.
If yall want better, be prepared for the price to escalate accordingly.
I think Mrs. Greg's comments fit your deal pretty well.
