We took some photos of some of our mares this afternoon. Thought I'd share.

Cheers---

TTB Wink

Missy Socks...she's a 1983 model, and the grand ol' matriarch around our outfit.

Kinda Fancy, she's 16 and doesn't miss a beat.

Classy Kirk, she's the dam of several of our high selling foals

Nice Shake

Susies Lightning Ike

HB the Second

Missy Special aka Silly Filly

Is the Classy Kirk mare, Dr. Kirk bred?

Thanks for sharing. You must have caught them and put halters
on all of them, eh?

Yes, the Classy Kirk mare is by Dr. Kirk. She's one of two we have. This isn't a few good picture of her in my opinion.

Yep, we caught these gals, still have a handful to get photo'd. Right after we took Missy Socks' photo, the mares left their favorite hideout, the dugout, and went swimming, I think. That made catching them more work than lazy ace and I wanted to do on a Sunday afternoon.

What a life they lead, eh? Seems they are 'bout as spoiled as the Corgi Dog!

Cheers---

Hi Judith...

Long time no see...glad you're still around. Don't keep yourself so scarce, young lady!

They are freeze brands with the exception of Susies Lightning Ike. She's a mare we bought four years ago, and she has two brands, a hot iron, and our freeze. She was so easy to photo today, I think she could be a great showmanship mare.

The mares all were pretty easy to get a long with, but you can definitely tell they just had their foals pulled, and they are not used to standing still and in the same place for periods of time greater than 4 or 5 minutes! I sure can't blame them for getting bored.

Cheers---

Absolute beauties! I really like the freeze branding idea for the horses once they come off the track you can really see that sucker! (the only problem I may have is with my greys....)

That is really interesting. I guess regardless of the color of the horse the hair is damaged. So it comes back different? Is that right? All of the TB off the track get lip tattoos but ya cant see em from a distance, how handy is that to see them Smile I like it!!!

Thanks Hooks. Probably some of the photos don't do the mares justice, especially Classy Kirk's. This was lazy ace's and my first shot at mare photography. They stood pretty good for not being showmanship broke!

Judith,

I think Jassy is right, the hair will just come in darker. Actually the hide is damaged just like with a hot iron brand, so it's a similar scar, just applied with the opposite method.

We have a red roan gelding who gets pretty light in the summer. He is also freeze branded, and you can see his brand just fine with he's light. I realize it's a different color pattern, but still a lighter colored horse.

By the way, the one mare, Kinda Fancy, who doesn't look like she has a brand, has one, we just took the photo of her right side, and then flipped it. I tried to put a brand on her with Photoshop, but that was way beyond my Photoshop capabilities!

Thanks for the complements!

Cheers---
