PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong...but haven't you Rep's, AMinus comes to mind, here been telling me , OT GoodPasture, etc that " the war has been won"?

And wasn't there a little party on a big boat with a plane ride and too tight jump suit with the Pres and a BIG sign....that declared the Mission Accomplished???

In the tones of Ricky Ricardo,, " Whaaat hoppen"?????

This speech reeks of the days of Cheney predicting that when we invade Iraq, "we will be greeting and throwing flowers at us"....yeah sure...' cept those flowers were weighted with bombs!!!!

Problem is people are lumping in to one category everything that is going on in Iraq.

1st We fought a war with a sovereign nation led by a ruthless ruler who had a modern army.......That was the War!, We Won the War!

2cd Now after defeating and winning the war against Saddam and His ARMY! We have the task of bringing stability to that nation.

3rd After the war was won there was an organizing of Terrorist in Iraq, some home grown ones and some from other nations. Since the defeating of the Iraq army and their leader Saddam we have been engaged in searching and fighting Terrorist, many of which had nothing at all to do with the original war effort against Iraq's army.

In every war ever fought, to my knowledge there has been rebels that hung on to try to keep the fighting alive rather it was the Civil War, WWII etc.... but the end of those said wars happened and were recorded as such in history. A local rebellious or terrorist act does not make for a War.

I should know better, but I assumed Kolan had read that article and that McCain obviously had said he would win the war by 2013.

But after a slow download I read the article and McCain never said that. That was just the heading that the writer came up with. And the opinions of the writer.

Hers is what McCain actually said: In that article.

"The Iraq War has been won. Iraq is a functioning democracy, although still suffering from the lingering effects of decades of tyranny and centuries of sectarian tension," McCain said

Come on Kolan, slow down and make sure what you post is accurate!

I'll give McCain credit that he is talking about actually winning the war as opposed to Barry and Hill who don't realize that surrender is not an acceptable way to end a war.

Looks to me like he is predicting the US involvement in the war to be done by 2013- to me thats the end of the war.....

Funny how he is tempering his tone now- and picking up on Obamas lead-eh Say what? Could the 70% of American people that think we shouldn't be in Iraq be toning down his rhetoric Say what?

Quote:
COLUMBUS, Ohio (CNN) -- Sen. John McCain envisions that by 2013, the Iraq War will be won but the threat from the Taliban in Afghanistan won't yet be eliminated, even though Osama bin Laden will have been captured or killed.

Sen. John McCain envisions his first-term achievements during a speech in Columbus, Ohio, Thursday.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee made both statements in a speech in which he envisions the state of affairs at the end of his first term if he is elected president.

Quote:

"But perhaps the key point that he made was the tone and tenor of his presidency when he said near the end of his speech, 'If I'm elected president, the era of the permanent campaign will end. The era of problem solving will begin,'" Schneider said.

"What's interesting about that is that precisely echoes what Barack Obama is talking about in his campaign," said Schneider, referring to the Democratic presidential candidate.

The Arizona senator said he believes the United States will have a smaller military presence in Iraq that will not play a direct combat role, and he predicts that al Qaeda in Iraq will be defeated.

"By January 2013, America has welcomed home most of the servicemen and women who have sacrificed terribly so that America might be secure in her freedom.

"The Iraq War has been won. Iraq is a functioning democracy, although still suffering from the lingering effects of decades of tyranny and centuries of sectarian tension," McCain said.
