Our government exceeded the spending cap placed on our national debt and now owes more than 9 trillion dollars. I have heard that is 30,000 for every man , woman , and child. The spending is out of control. The government had no choice but to exceed the spending cap or default but they had a choice when they proposed the last couple of decades budgets that created this monster. Where will it end. When you go to the polls this fall vote prolife. Within the prolife candidates, vote for someone fiscally conservative with the integrity to keep his or her word. Liberty Bell, don't forget your upbringing if you ever decide to go to Washington. I'm no politician so these figures could be wrong. If anyone has any correct input or thinking , feel free. Dis, your input would be no more credible than the disinguine Democrats voting against exceeding the cap. Most of them certainly helped in creating this debt , now they want to default?

Congress has been Republican-controlled since what? 1994? Twelve years.
Both Congress and the Presidency have been Republican controlled since 2000. Six years.
Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, this president has been one of the spendiest ones in history. And his war is a fairly minor one compared to some that have preceeded it, so that's not the excuse.

Aren't conservatives supposed to be about fiscal responsibility and lack of government intrusion? Aren't liberals supposed to be the ones who spend money willy-nilly and welcome gov't regulations and intrusions?
Republicans have been spending money like a drunken sailor... But at least a drunken sailor is spending his own money. And Bush has never vetoed anything, mush less a chance to blow some more money!

ROTFLMAO! The Republican Party took control of the US Government and have spent us into the largest debt in my memory and you want to blame it on the Democrats. Laughing Laughing

We're spending $1.1 billion dollars a week in Iraq. The Republicans have cut college grants, medicade, project cuts in veterans benefits, raising the cost of the retired military health program, Tricare., people still living in hotels, tents, their cars on the Gulf coast... But Republicans will send billions to fund Bush's personal war. Keep talking, Red Robin. Americans have stopped listening.

I think the problem basically boils down to balance.
Historically speaking, Democrats were the ones that liked to spend money. Republicans provided the balance by saying, "No, we can't afford that this year."

But here in the last ten or fifteen years, Republicans have decided they like to spend money, too! The balance is gone and the deficit is proof. Neoconservatism at it's best. Rolling Eyes

You girls are spouting the party line, not me. I'm the one that posted it. I'm the one that is looking at it fair and balanced. The spending problem is certainly bipartisian. There are spending idiots on both sides of the isle. As a matter of fact, the higher the ranking the politician, the more pork spending . Here is a list compiled by someone of pork barrell spending. I wouldn't agree that all of it is unnecessary but some of it is. Why don't you girls take a look and see if there are any D's in front of some of these names.

I've always thought we were better off to have the branches of government split between the parties. Since the Republicans have taken control of the House, they've raised bitter partisanship to a new level.

Neither side seems to understand that government spending is creating problems, not solving them. However, the central problem is still at the Federal Reserve. As soon as the government prints the money it devalues it by charging Interest.

Then it expects to be paid taxes in the same currency that it just devalued.

The whole system is nuts.

Of course there are Democrats bringing home the pork. They couldn't get re-elected if they gave up their share of pork. I can imagine what their Republican opponent would say at the next campaign if other states got billions in pork and the Democratic Senators didn't bring home their share. Democrat Nancy Palosi offered to give up her "earmarks" after Katrina if Republicans would give up theirs. The discussion at the time was the "bridge to nowhere" in Alaska. Republican Senator Stevens flatly refused. Just like Republicans tried to paint Dems guilty of taking bribes from Abramoff, you're trying to push the responsibility for the debt on Democrats. Neither one will work. This is a Republican government. Besides, everyone knows Democrats like to spend. Laughing It's the Republicans who have claimed to be fiscally responsible.
