was wondering how everyone felt about this.
in my opinion, if you are totally upset about this, you are the ones with something to hide.

if the govt. put me under survailence, they would get an earful of arguing over the tv remote, bitching about the neighbors cattle out, and very very rarely, they might hear a bout of midnight wrestling. and even then they better listen fast, cause it sure ain't the all nighters like it used to be !

Most people didn't see the rise of Nazi Germany, either.

I am not saying that Bush is evil, but the spread of fear is evil. 9/11 spread fear all around the world. Everyone was traumatized. That fear continues today.

All it would take is another attack to coincide with the eventual implosion of the economy. AND THE ECONOMY WILL IMPLODE, GIVEN THE TRACK WE ARE ON.

Look at how Russia developed after they overthrew the Tsar. They feared they were being attacked by the West, and so the paranoia within their society created a society where everyone was afraid of each other (not just the West.)

We've had our civil wars. We can easily have another. Both political parties are using fear as a way to gain political control. All the dominoes are in place.

Just as in Germany, the people are giving up their power and the State is gaining in strength in exchange for security and empty promises of prosperity. The State is spending too much money on security to make prosperity possible. Fear bankrupts a society in many different ways.

I've studied history my whole life. It is kind of strange finally understanding what is going on as it happens. Like Shakespeare said, "All the world is a stage." This story is all too familiar. The characters have changed, but not the plot.
You don't understand s***, you are nothing but a perfect example of an educated idiot.

Me too. And I think he is a fear-monger. Or obsessed with fear.

How'd we live all this time without his endless, ceaseless talk?

peaceful, happy, almost a Utopia like setting...... it was a beautiful little neighborhood we had here

then stevec and dis moved in and it was like the low rent neighbors with the cars on blocks in the yard and the pitbulls chained up out back.

Roping back in from the person attacks... Rolling Eyes

Have you read the Bill of Rights? Which rights exactly are you willing to give away? Or is the Fourth the only one?

Our entire goverment is composed of checks and balances. The founding fathers were completely brilliant in that aspect. The federal gov't is composed of three branches, all of which are to balance one another, so none gains too much power.

Citizens are protected from the gov't via the Bill of Rights. Right to assemble, free press, religion, bear arms, security in their person, home, papers and effects and no searches of the above without a warrant granted after probable cause has been established...
And so on.

Myself, I don't let any of my Constitutional rights slip away easily. And I'm entirely too dull to do anything illegal. But people have fought and died to protect my Constitutional rights. I will not allow them to just slip away. Sad

BTW, I disagree with you steve. Forfeiture of personal rights for the good of the collective seems more communist than fascist...

Communism is an economic idea, fascism is a political idea

Again, I have to disagree. Communism is a social idea. Economics are included, but it's essentially a classless society, which means not only is the money equal, so is everything else. (And I assume we're talking actual communism, not the version we've seen through the USSR/China/etc...)
Although you're probably right in that giving over personal freedoms to the government doesn't really fit communism.

So far as letting the goverment eavesdrop on your phone conversations, I have to wonder how many of the folks who think that's just fine would also have no trouble with the police snooping through their homes. Without their knowledge, or a warrant, of course.

Shocked I don't have anything to hide from the govenment yet I would not want them listening in on my personal and private conversations. I think it's personal to talk to an Aunt about her day, her problems, her joys. To talk finances and complete a business deal selling calves over the phone, nothing to hide, yet private. To talk to a friend in financial distress is personal. To talk to a child at grandmas full of excitement and wonder. To talk to your best friend about where you've been out to how many beers you drank on Friday night.......personal. To hear the one you love say I love you as you hang up the phone.....personal a private moment. Not that there is a thing to hide but I wouldn't want some government guy listening in chuckling to himself over important things going on in my life. By far not big things but important things to me.
