| Well I'm off for 3 days to play rich cowgirl with the boots and hat and bling bling belts. Truthfully I'm looking forward to good food, the mountains, good company and some exploring without the pressures of urban U.S. Now that I have broken up with my boyfriend who wasn't enamoured of the Southwest like I am, I am scoping it out each trip for retirement.

| Santa Fe is called the city different by most New Mexicans. It is mostly touristy and very artsy. It is set in a mountain location and has pinon trees and mtns as a backdrop and some dessert scrub around it. Santa fe has become home to lots of movie stars, artists and the like. Hope that answers your question zephyrus31.

It was beautiful, good shopping, good restaurants but after just 2 1/2 days I'd had enough of rich Texans and what my son calls "Trustafarians."
Next trip I rent a car and drive around the undiscovered parts of New Mexico.
The Georgia O'Keefe museum was lovely. I did buy southwestern jewelry from a well know jeweler -- involved turquoise and other semi precious stones.
Green chile anything is tasty.

| R2 keep on eatin that green chile and we'll make a New Mexician out of you. You have probably heard this one but if not here it is. Visit New Mexico and leave on probation. Glad you had fun, and you have the right idea for your next visit.

| I've just about covered New Mexico, but Santa Fe I've never seen. Am I missing it? Drive from Texline, through Raton, into Colorado, NE NM, it's the best.

| Sierraman Santa Fe is about 2.5 hours south of Raton. When you come through Raton you are just about 45 minutes north of me.

I have a book on NM. I told the kids next trip we hike and see small towns.
I'm not sure what you would like in Santa Fe. Some interesting historical buildings. Art? Good but expensive food.

| Kansas? Hah, Ever been on that turnpike? You pay everytime you get on (or maybe off). That's how they pay for their roads. Tourists pay it instead of the citizens. Creative, but annoying for trips.
