Ask ANYONE who works computers for a living and they will ALL agree that Norton's is probably the worst, most hacked security system around. It is bloated, it is a memory hog, and it will literally slow your system to a crawl. Most computer repair people, software people, and IT professionals use AVG. I have used AVG freeware for more than three years and have yet to get a virus. I also use Spybot Search and Destroy, and I use AdAware. Both are freeware. All the companies provide excellent free software for private computers. They will sell you an upgrade that will do more things, but most those things are not needed by the average home user.
The program I listed above does some spyware removal, it does some registry repair, it checks links for dead ends, and if you are a business the additional "Professional" version will be worth the money. But as a individual user, the freeware version is all you need.

I asked this before, but missed the reply if there was one.
How do I get rid of Norton (mine is free) and download AVG?
Thanks. And I'll look into the link you just posted, GP. Thanks.

We had Norton-- and had all kinds of problems- and then when we tried to get rid of it-neither I nor my wife, who knows a lot more about these new fangled machines than me, could get it off...Ended up having our computer man do it....
We then went with Norman- a program manager and firewall- which costs --- but is what he recommended....It works great- but I think costs about $30 a year....

| If you open Nortons, and go to the Help line on the menu bar you should be able to see a "About Norton's" or something similar that will tell you what version you are using.

| Thanks, Goodpasture. I will be sure NOT to renew Norton and download AVG and this other program you have posted here. Guess I'll see if I can get rid of Norton....

| I use AVG on mine and it works well. It was recommended by a tech that does online checks and repairs monthly on my computers. give him a hollar at www.brimstonepc.com in 10 yrs I have found only 2 "computer techs" that actually knew what they are doing.
