An interesting site. When I get more time I will spend more time on it.
Somehow, the first thing I opened was about the 3 rake hitch, which was developed or built by Nebraska sandhill ranchers. The first were built during World war II when manpower was short, and used a six horse team. I had a cousin who raked with one of these the year after she finished high school. Later they built the three rake hitch for tractors.
Ranchers also built 24 to 30 ft rakes that were mounted on striped down cars, (usually a Model A Ford). They used spindles, brake drums, and the hydarulic brake mechanisms from cars to dump the rake.
