Are you saying they shot the dogs that were tied up?
Also, do you know why someone would want 11 dogs?

| THat doesn't sound much like heelers, they're so prone to the heel they can't bring down cattle.

| For another, apparently they told her if she didn't sign the paperwork for them to dispose of the dogs "HUMANELY", she would go to jail. |
I read this last night and then again this morning then it hit me....you said apparently
So you were NOT there? Who is giving you your info?
I got mine from John C of the Coryell County Sheriff office. YES he was one of 3 officers who was in charge of humanely disposing the animals.
She was not told she would go to jail if she did not sign the papers. She was told she or the sheriffs had to dispose of the animals and if she did not then she would go to jail over the loss of the livestock. Do you know how many animals were killed by this pack of free roaming dogs? I do and if I had suffered the loss of that many animals I would have handled the situation MYSELF. But her neighbors gave her more than ample opportunities to contain them. She said she could not , they kept getting loose. She never offered to pay restitution for any of the livestock that her dogs killed.
After talking to him he did NOT enjoy nor did any other officer there in thier duty of shooting these dogs. Yes, he said one dog was shot more than once and he was responsible for having to shoot it another time. All others were put down with one shot.
YES I am a transplant city girl and there are some things I dont understand about how small towns work BUT do NOT tarnish law enforcement.
90% of officers do thier job with pride and respect for the citizens they are in charge of protecting. They do thier job to the best of thier ablity and go out of thier way to find a solution that will make everyone happy. They are placed in dangerous situations and they have to make hard decissions. They deserve respect and honor. Then to have some one who has an axe to grind trash thier name.
No I dont know John or anyone in the Coryell Sheriff Office.
All this post is a tool to stir up emotions and cause bad feelings toward the Sheriff's office.
I am sure you can see I hold the officers of law enforcement in HIGH esteem. I will defend them after I confirm the facts. I have been to too many police funerals to have someone bring down the respect these men /women are due by placing themselves in the line of fire.

My question is, even if these dogs were attacking livestock. If the ranchers didnt take care of it, the sheriff's department should have siezed the dogs, and taken them to the animal shelter to be humanely uthinized. Shooting one, and then having to shoot it again because it's not dead is NOT humane. We see this all the time on Animal Cops Houston, they go in, they catch the dogs, take them to the animal shelter and take care of it. Wether it's placing them in new homes, or puttin them down because they aren't good candidates as pets.
Shooting them on the spot, by a sheriff's deputy aint the proper way to take care of things, no matter how "small the town" Gatesville is not so small that it doesn't have an animal shelter access to one in a near by town.
I'm a firm believer in killin a dog I see out messin with my livestock. I'll take care of it at that stage......if I have the chance. But to let these dogs go back home, then to have Officers of the Law take care of it in this manner........not proper proceedure.
they do have an animal shelter

| The dogs are the innocent party, should shoot the owners.

| I agree with you Lilly, the dogs should have been seized and put down humanely. Different if the livestock owners had caught them in the act.

| Can I ask what promted you to call this county's sherrif department? If it was just to get the facts and be nosey then geeesh....that is just odd. If you don't know them how did you get them to give you the information? |
Sure you can ask...
Having quite a few family members as police officers I know how a "city" police dept is run.
Last month Easty had her dog shot by a psyco neighbor and the way the officer handled the situation.......said she shot her with buck shot...dog had ONE hole~ dog had a broken jaw hmmmm how does that happen? She said the dog attacked her~ BS~ I know for a fact that dog would NEVER bite a human. First time I met the dog I walked into her house withOUT owners and she met me with wagging butt LOL and licked me.
Officer said he had to go by what she said..didnt matter dog was not peppered with buckshot...Lady is a deer hunter and the dog was shot in the kill zone for a deer as she was heading AWAY from the shooter~had a broken jaw ~was not a known biter.
The way the officer treated easty was very UNPROFFESIONAL and goes against all I know how officers treat people.
I wanted to make sure ALL texas sheriff officers were NOT like this one.
How did I get them to fill me in? I asked and told them why I was asking.
I guess it helps when you tell them you have family as officers and your last name is Earp who knows.
Tibbs if I see an unjust situation I have an uncontroble urge to fix the situation. Yes I am a conservitive activist. This was a hot button topic and if the facts did not get out then it would have gotten worse.
