URGENT!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

One of my coworkers called me late tonight hysterical. She has eleven Blue Heelers(she's been trying to rehome several of them with little success), and the sheriff was at her house SHOOTING them today. She lives outside of Gatesville, Tx, and apparently the local ranchers have called in complaints of her dogs attacking their cattle, to which she has told me they have NOT. Two of the dogs were killed(shot unnecissarily 30+ times), and she fears desperately for the others. SEVEN of these dogs HAVE to be gone by TOMORROW, or the sherriff is going to come back and shoot the rest.

PLEASE, anyone with a heart in the Waco/Temple/Killeen/Austin/Gatesville and surrounding areas, PLEASE, these dogs need help. They are 5+ months old, male and female, outside dogs. She says they are very smart and could easily be housebroken, and are very loving dogs. She has called the no-kill shelters, but everyone is FULL. She has tried finding homes for them, but hasn't had any/much luck.

PLEASE, if you can help, even with a temporary foster home, call me AT ANY TIME. 254-833-0047. She is desperate, and it isn't FAIR to these dogs that have done nothing wrong! These dogs are going to die, PLEASE.

First off, she needs to move the pups to some other location. Where the sheriff won't know where they are. Then she needs to take this story to the news. A sheriff shooting a dog or dogs that many times is NOT a humane way to end it. Even if they are attacking cattle, the sheriff is in the WRONG here. There's proceedures that he is bound by law to follow in cases such as this. I"m too far away to make a trip for a pup, but I'd think some of the larger SPCA offices would gladly take the pups in if you told them the story.

The next thing she needs to do is make an appointment with her vet and get her bitch dog spayed-so this unfortunate turn of events doesn't happen again. I'm surprised the ranchers even went through the formality of calling the sheriff about it-it's usually SSS.

How many times have we heard, "It wasn't MY dog"...only to find out it really was. I think 11 dogs is WAYYYYYY too many. I'm a dog lover,
and I don't like to see dogs shot, especially shot 30 times for crying out loud. I'd think this lady could make a case out of this, IF she knew where 11 dogs were all the time. Which I doubt.

Whatever she does with them, we'd take one female if they can get her to us...

I too think the female in this case should be spayed. Or females I should say. Both our outside dogs are contained. One heeler and one border collie. You can't watch your dogs 24/7 and know what they are doing. So we keep them put up so they can't get in trouble like that. We let them loose when we are outside, and take them to the pasture. But when not contained, we are out there with them.
Our blue heeler was fine for a long time, then he got to bringin home news papers. I thought they were mother in laws' papers. (which she never reads) Well they weren't, they were the neighbors across the road. So he no longer has free run around here because of that.

According to John C of the Coryell County Sheriff Dept. There are 11 dogs, NOT heelers who have been killing goats & calves. The dogs were aloud to run free at all times. The Sheriff went out and gave her a choice on how to dispose of the animals. They have been out to her place numerous times over the killing of livestock. She signed the letter asking them to dispose of the dogs. They disposed of the dogs quickly and humanly.
Everyone here, I am sure is a responsable pet owner which as we can see with the facts this woman was NOT.

11 dogs is a lot but I can think of situations in which it wouldn't be too many. A guy who lion hunts with dogs, has sheep and has house dog too for example could very easily have that many dogs. Heck we have 9 dogs but 3 are working dogs. 3 are guardian dogs to keep the coyotes from eating too many lamb chops and the other 3 are 10,10 and 16 so they are certified couch holder downers who probably won't be with us for much longer... 11 dogs running around with no supervison on the other hand isn't a group of 11 pets it is a pack which is not a good thing. The only dogs that run free here are the guardian dogs and they pretty much stick to the sheep like glue. They can't protect them locked in a kennel or sleeping on a couch after all.

Been on both sides of those deals and if you can't control your dogs you accept the consequences. I'm alot more tolerant of the neighbors dogs than alot of guys would be but the odd one over the years has gotten a lead injection.

Not only do they chase cattle but they kill wildlife like deer.
We had this one acreage owner a few years back that would let her dogs run. They were chaseing cattle. She was warned I dont know how many times.
Then somebody shot them with rock salt as a bigger warning to her.
Well all that did was make them gun smart and harder to shoot later on.
Then what she would do is only let them out at night.
Well that made it tougher for us to shoot them because the only time we could really get a shot at them was when they lingered on chaseing the cows after sun rise but they eventually got shot and killed.

For ONE, they were NOT humane about it. There were about six people out there with guns TARGETTING the dogs. As in, they weren't humanely killing the dogs with a single shot, but playing TARGET PRACTICE until the dogs finally died.

Plus, NOT all the dogs are free roaming. Several of them are tied out, so they COULDN'T do anything wrong.

For another, apparently they told her if she didn't sign the paperwork for them to dispose of the dogs "HUMANELY", she would go to jail.
